Dr. Ashlee Albright

Co-owner/veterinarian

Dr. Albright has worked in small animal veterinary hospitals for over 20 years. After graduating from Simon Fraser University majoring in Biological Sciences, she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan in 2011. Dr. Albright and her husband relocated to Northern British Columbia, where she gained valuable experience in emergency medicine. Her special interests include surgery, behavioural medicine, and senior pet care while always being mindful of providing low-stress patient care.

Dr. Albright lives on the Peninsula with her husband, two kids, her heart-kitty senior cat, Herman, and their young Cavalier cross, Ruby. After years of providing GP veterinary care on the Saanich Peninsula and beyond, Dr. Ashlee Albright is incredibly happy to have built Peninsula Veterinary Hospital; a dream-come-true with her close friend and colleague.

In her “spare time”, Dr. Albright volunteers as a contributor to and Chair of the West Coast Veterinarian Magazine Editorial Committee, which publishes news on provincial veterinary issues and progressive articles about veterinary medicine. She enjoys exploring nature, gardening, and reading/writing.

Dr. Mary McDowell

Co-owner/veterinarian

Dr. Mary McDowell graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan in 2011 with her classmate Dr. Albright.  Since 2016 she has practiced on the Saanich Peninsula, where in 2023 they co-founded PenVet Mobile Veterinary Services and in 2024 Peninsula Veterinary Hospital.

Peninsula Veterinary Hospital fulfills Dr. McDowell’s vision to provide full-spectrum medical, surgical, and dental care in a beautiful custom built facility in her home community. In her practice, Dr McDowell enjoys solving complex medical cases and the diagnosis and management of patients with dermatological conditions. She focuses on special handling techniques, with a gentle approach for nervous and anxious pets.

Dr. McDowell grew up on the BC Coast and lives in North Saanich with her husband and a goofy Black and Tan Coonhound, Eddie. When not at the hospital or out on mobile calls, she enjoys gardening, competitive running, and hiking. Dr. McDowell is excited that the team at Peninsula Veterinary Hospital has become a part of the local community and looks forward to meeting many more of the Peninsula’s residents and their pets.
